John Williams

I’m John Williams from Georgia.  I’m a biology major in hopes of obtaining my wildlife biology degree.  I just started deer hunting about 6 years ago, but it has been my passion ever since.  I am mostly self taught since no one in my family hunts anymore, but it is what drives me to help others learn about hunting.  I’ve met many new friends through hunting, and I enjoy scouting and the preseason just as much as the actual season!  I started out like most people going after whatever walked out, but now I am a lot more particular passing good bucks, so they can grow to full maturity.  I enjoy all types of hunting and using different methods to hunt deer and other wildlife.  Hunting is great way to connect with nature, provide for your friends and family, and make memories with the ones you love!

I shot this fawn killer on the way to check my Coon traps.  I was driving down the road, and he popped up between a fence and a canal.  Having no where to go he turned around and started coming right to me.  When he got to about 30 yards I took a shot with my iron sights .22.  That seemed to make him mad because he started to run at me even though I could tell he was hit good.  He didn’t get much farther, but I’m glad I had more bullets than he had steps, or it could have been bad!  I don’t know what it is with things charging me this year!!

I had no idea they were this heavy.  I’ve shot at a bunch, and I’ve even tried leg traps.  I have a lot more respect for these animals now, and I can see how they can take down deer.  He was probably pushing 50 lbs, and I was shaking lifting him up!
